Meeting Minutes

The regular monthly meeting was called to order by Chairman, Patrick Colgrove. Tom Riemer, Bill Pearce, Traci Beiersdorff and Laura Martinsen were present. There were 7 people in public attendance.

  • The September, 2024 minutes were presented and a motion was made by Tom Riemer, seconded by Bill Pearce to approve them as written. All in favor, motion carried.
  • The September, 2024 Treasurer’s report was presented and a motion was made by Bill Pearce and seconded by Tom Riemer to approve the report as presented. All in favor, motion carried.

    Comments by Clerk/Board – Supervisor Riemer relayed that one of the recycling days in the township had to be closed earlier due to the container being full. Discussion if another container was needed to prevent this. However, this rarely occurs. Will evaluate situation in the future, if needed.

Chairman identified that he had removed a deer carcass in one of the town’s roads. He is working on developing a policy on removal of carcasses and this will be presented at the next town board meeting.

Discussion regarding railroad crossings in town and upcoming snow plowing during the winter months.

OLD BUSINESS:

  • Road Maintenance: South Beaser cold mix patching didn’t go as expected but will work for now.
  • Handicap Ramp Handrail: Chairman identified that he was able to put on the handrail and the project is now considered complete.

NEW BUSINESS:

  • Presentation by Ashland School District regarding Proposed Referendum: Amanda Tutor, Business Manager, had a provided education about the specifics for the school district’s proposed referendum on the November 2024 ballot. Questions were answered.
  • Review of LRIP-S 2025 Project [Beaser Road to Weister Road]: Dave O’Donahue, Engineer helping out with the project was able to review the specifics of the plan and discussion regarding possible options. Chairman reiterated the how the funding of the projects works.
  • Budget Preparation Discussion: Chairman spoke about various costs of items this year that likely will increase next year such as dust control. Budget meeting will be next month prior to the regular board meeting.
  • Propane Contract: A motion was made by Bill Pearce to accept the proposed propane contract from Midland Services. Motion was seconded by Pat Colgrove, to approve. All in favor, motion carried.
  • Operators Licenses: Richard Klein presented to the town board identifying that he is is in the process of purchasing The Gathering Barn. Town Clerk identified a provisional liquor license will be provided to Richard Klein as the current owners are relinquishing their liquor license back to the township contingent on the sale of the business. Richard will present to the November meeting for full liquor license approval.
  • Building/Driveway Permits: A motion was made by Pat Colgrove to approve a building permit for Richard Klein. Motion was seconded by Tom Riemer to approve. All in favor, motion carried. A motion was made by Pat Colgrove to approve a building permit for Dale Vaillancourt. Motion was seconded by Bill Pearce to approve. All in favor, motion carried. A motion was made by Pat Colgrove to approve a building permit for Jeff Marsland. Motion was seconded by Bill Pearce to approve. All in favor, motion carried. A motion was made by Pat Colgrove to approve a driveway permit for John Zifko. Motion was seconded by Tom Riemer to approve. All in favor, motion carried.
  • Public Comment: County board member [representing Town of Gingles], George Bussey provided input regarding the Ashland School District’s proposed referendum.

Resident discussed his property on Barrot Drive. Chairman identified that particular road is not owned by the township therefore cannot be graded or plowed by the town.

-The Budget meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at 7:00 PM with the regular monthly board meeting following immediately afterwards.

-The bills were submitted and authorized to be paid by Board signature.

-Meeting was adjourned.
